Emma Goldsmith appointed as New Head of Dragon School, Oxford

Governors of the Dragon are delighted to announce the appointment of Emma Goldsmith as Head of Dragon School, Oxford from September 2021.

Emma has enjoyed notable success as Head of Winchester House School, winning ‘Best Head of a Prep School’ at the 2019 Tatler Awards, following the school’s nomination as Tatler’s ‘Best Prep School’ in 2017.

Emma taught at Oakham School, Rugby School and went on to become Deputy Head at Bloxham School where she also worked as Housemistress, setting up the first girls’ boarding house. Educated at Durham Johnston Comprehensive before reading English at the University of Manchester, Emma is enthusiastically involved with the Boarding Schools’ Association and IAPS, is an active ISI inspector and Vice Chair of ISEB.

Andrew Webb, Chair of Governors, commented:

“Emma brings a wealth of teaching and leadership experience and we are excited by her deep understanding of the needs of pupils and their families. Her knowledge of both prep and senior schools will be invaluable in ensuring the Dragon remains at the forefront of prep school education.”

Commenting on her appointment Emma Goldsmith said:

“I am thrilled to be appointed as Head of the Dragon, it will be a privilege to lead this extraordinary school. The future is full of possibilities and I am looking forward to meeting the children, staff, parents and ODs over the coming months.”

Emma Goldsmith succeeds Dr Crispin Hyde-Dunn as the 12th Head of the Dragon. Dr Hyde-Dunn has overseen many innovations during his time at the School, not least the successful launch of Dragon QUEST, the School’s popular Saturday enrichment programme, and subsequent introduction of more flexible boarding options.

Andrew Webb said:

“I am delighted to take this opportunity to thank Crispin for his leadership, particularly over the past twelve months during such a challenging period. We look forward to continuing to build on the foundations put in place over the past few years.”
