We are a private day nursery for children aged 2 to 5 years. Since we opened in 1992, the nursery has achieved excellent Ofsted ratings, and a longstanding high reputation in the Oxford area.

Our Comfortable Home Environment

Our premises are in a beautiful Edwardian house in north Oxford. We provide children with a comfortable home in which to play, learn, and enjoy their time with us. There is plenty of scope for all kinds of activity, inside and out, with the nursery taking up
the whole of the ground floor and garden.

Over 30 years the nursery has grown and developed in line with the changing requirements of parents and educational authorities. We are now a foundation for Early Years Learning and we provide an ideal start for all children – bringing together aspects of the
National Curriculum without losing those core elements of warmth and play that are at the heart of a child’s day.

We are very proud of our highly qualified staff, who we encourage in their ongoing professional development. We have a long-established management team who inspire with their leadership.

Our aim is simply to provide the best outcome for all our children and their families.

This is how the Government and early years professionals describe the time in your child’s life between birth and 5 years. At The Nursery your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development.

We ensure that children learn through play and that we work closely with parents and carers. You will be kept up to date on your child’s progress, through regular reporting, assessments, observations, and parent consultations.

Seven areas of learning

Within Learning & Development, our staff plan activities to support and stimulate the children’s learning. The curriculum provides experiences in seven areas of learning.

The three prime areas are:
  • Personal, Social and Emotional
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development

The four specific areas are:
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding of the World
  • Expressive Art and Design
  • Literacy

Key People

Our Key People work closely with each child and respond sensitively to their feelings, ideas, and behaviour. Reports on the child’s development and progress are prepared by the Key Person and shared with parents on a regular basis. This reassures parents about their child’s well-being, and ensures that activity plans are up to date and in line with current needs. The Key Person also prepares a leaving report which is sent to the next care provider (typically, school).

Bridging the Generation Gap

We have teamed up with the Residents from Fairfield Residential Care Home, who have been welcoming our Busy Bees children.

Developing connections between older people and very young children can benefit both young and old. Interactions with children help the elderly to feel a connection of the world and increase activity levels and confidence. Intergenerational programs offer a unique opportunity for younger and older generations to interact through planned activities.
