Giving Forward – a Dragon Legacy

May 25, 2021

For a young Dragon, the prospect of their legacy will be one of the last things on their minds. They may not be aware that many of the buildings they learn within, the activities they enjoy, and the boarding houses that become homes, are often funded through the philanthropy of our wider community. This includes those valued individuals who choose to make a personal contribution to the School through a gift in their Will.

The Dragon has been fortunate to receive many such legacies during its history and through their support have been able to fund a myriad of School projects. Most recently, we have supported several bursary pupils, as well as upgrading our IT provision to enable a smooth transition to remote working and learning during the height of the pandemic. We also eagerly anticipate a much-desired upgrade to our cricket nets for the new School year.

“The Dragon has benefitted greatly from many generous donors; the successful Dragon today is built on the forethought of those in our past. We must act now to secure its success long into our future.”

Making a gift in your Will is a means of giving forward, by donating in a way that may not be possible during your lifetime, and we are honoured that you place your trust in our School to safeguard your benefaction and help your vision come to fruition. While the welfare and future happiness of those closest to you will naturally come first, we would be grateful if you would consider remembering the Dragon in your Will. Gifts in Wills are not subject to inheritance tax and are a wonderful way to ensure that the young Dragons of the future will benefit from a Dragon Education.

To honour our legacy donors, we invite those who have remembered the Dragon in their will to become members of our Skipper Society. Skipper’s greatest legacy to the Dragon is that almost 150 years on from the School’s founding, happy self-confident, and purposeful children can still be found here today. It is fitting that our legacy society, which honours those whose thoughtful and forward-thinking gift plays an integral part in the future of the School, should be named in his memory.

2020 marked 100 years since Skipper’s retirement from the Dragon. Whilst we were unable to celebrate this special occasion with an event due to ongoing restrictions, we hope you will join us to mark this special time by considering a gift to the School in his memory.

We’d love to speak with you about a gift to the Dragon in your Will. Leaving a legacy is a significant and poignant decision and we believe that it should not be taken lightly. If you would like to start a conversation about giving, please don’t hesitate to telephone me on 01865 315 417 or email [email protected], I would be delighted to discuss options and hear more about your experiences at the Dragon.
